Tsuba Guard: Wailing and Gnashing of Teeth

CHAPTER 13: WAILING AND GNASHING OF TEETH.

It was a relief that Kana got to shower alone.  She was getting used to experiencing new things but some things she did not need to experience, to know she did not want to do them.  Public showers was one of them.  She was surprised to find that Ginger actually had some good smelling body lotion.  Kana hadn’t smelled any on her or any of the other girls but Ginger had some and the bottle had seen some use.
After she lotioned up and got dressed, Kana poked around Ginger’s room, a little, trying to find some remnant of an identity other than gang leader.  People aren’t born gang leaders, they usually have a life before all that.  And there, tattered and worn, patched up and taped, was a photo album.  Flicks was tagged on the cover with a metallic pink marker.

Kana snatched it up and plopped down on the bed and started to look through it.  Most of the pictures had a description scrawled under or on them.  She saw a young Ginger, with a bandana down shading her eyes with what was a far younger Klan and Rella at her side.  As she turned on there were pictures of Ginger in what must have been juvenile hall.  There was a picture of Ginger on her first vaporcycle, Ginger holding a gun, Ginger and some girls holding guns.  There were some pictures of Ginger after being beat up pretty badly.  Pictures of Ginger lying in a hospital bed on 6 different occasions.
She took extra time to look at the ones of Ginger in the hospital, Ginger’s face swollen up to the size of a pumpkin in one.  That was the one time her whole face was visible but it was so swelled you couldn’t recognize her.  Flipping further she saw an adolescent Ginger and some girls posed with a bunch of gun toting gangbangers.  As Kana turned the pages of the album she kept expecting to find something.  But she couldn’t put her finger on what it was she was looking for.  But by the end of the book she realized it.
